Date Posted:13 February 2023
Starting boxing is relatively a simple and inexpensive sport for the beginner. Initially, you only need a small amount of specialised equipment. Before becoming a regular in the ring, you will need a few essential items of boxing equipment to secure your safety and maximize your experience at training!
Both amateurs and seasoned professionals would advise you to invest in high-quality boxing equipment to look after yourself in the gym. Fortunately, RDX Sports beginner boxing equipment is also all about protection and safety at inexpensive prices!
As you should own your own boxing gear, the few items you'll need to buy shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars total, from there you'll be ring-ready in no time!
Punching Bag
Punching bags are typically made from durable vinyl, leather, or canvas and can be filled with foams, rag fill or even sand! There are also two main types of punching bags, the hanging bag and the free-standing bag.
A hanging bag is usually the preferred option for training and is great for practicing footwork. Boxers with greater experience usually prefer them. However, once they're installed, they can take up alot of room in the boxing gym and can be difficult to relocate if they are quite heavy.
A Free-Standing Bag is a boxing bag that is easier to move around the gym floor once installed and usually costs more than a hanging bag. However, unlike a hanging bag, it produces different feedback in comparison and may not be as interactive as hanging punching bag.
Boxing Gloves
Boxing gloves are the essential item of each boxer's equipment. Due to the wide variety of styles, manufacturers, and sizes of gloves, shopping for boxing gloves can be an overwhelming experience. You may narrow down your search for the ideal pair of boxing gloves by ensuring that you select the correct weight/size.
The volume of padding in the glove is used to determine the corresponding ounces in weight (oz). Most amateurs start with larger/heavier gloves for added protection and work their way down as their skills start to improve. Boxing gloves should be worn such that the tips of your fingers barely touch the fabric at the end and you shouldn't feel any discomfort when making a closed fist.
Boxing Headgear
You may prevent cuts, scratches, and bruises to the head by wearing protective headgear. Padded headgear can reduce the severity of a blow to the head, but they won't prevent you from a concussion entirely. There is a wide variety of headwear models in the market, from something that provides minimum protection to something that hides your nose safely behind a steel bar.
Hand Wraps
Wrapping your hands and wrists in protective cloth based wraps is vital if you care about the delicate bones and joints in your hands and wrists. Wrapping your hands effectively protects your knuckles and prevents you from spraining or breaking your wrists when throwing hard or akward punches.
They're also ideal for keeping your boxing gloves in good shape. Wraps can also catch the blood, sweat and moisture that would otherwise soak through your boxing gloves.
The sizes and designs of hand wraps are extensive. When wrapping your hands, longer models allow you to wrap your hands with new techniques, such as the between-the-fingers or create an additional knuckle pad.
Groin Guard
When you wear a groin guard, you don't have to worry about your privates gettings knocked out the back of your spine during a sparring session!
Make sure to get one suitable for boxing where they also cover the lower abdominals to protect areas around the groin!
